Women's Institute

WIBucklesham Brightwell & Foxhall Women’s Institute

We meet at Bucklesham Village Hall at 7.30pm on the third Wednesday in every month, except June and July when we go out somewhere.

We usually have a speaker when we meet in the village hall, except in March (our birthday meeting) and December when we have our Christmas meal. Tea and coffee are available at every meeting at the village hall and we have a rota for making these. Our birthday meeting in March is open to any ladies in the village and to other WIs. We usually do something a little different to the regular monthly meeting. Previously we held a fashion show with clothes from the Edinburgh Woollen Mill modelled by our members. We hold a raffle and provide food and refreshments for everyone. We hold a raffle when we meet in the village hall, as we need to raise extra funds to see us through each year. We also have a trading stall, where members can sell things they make or produce, with the WI taking ten percent of the proceeds.

We welcome new members both from within our villages and outside. Around half our members actually live outside the villages of Bucklesham, Brightwell and Foxhall. The WI caters for a diverse range of interests and events put on by our local federation (Suffolk East Federation of Women’s Institutes) and Bucklesham WI supports many of these.
